A license plate is unique to each vehicle and is an identification pattern that needs to be followed in all countries. However, in the year 2016, there was a change being implemented in Mercosur members. The national government announced that the implementation of a new format of license plate for car and motorcycle should take effect from the 1st of January, 2016. All the Mercosur members agreed to this decision, and so there is a unique license plate requirement in Mercosur. What exactly is the new patent Mercosur license plate?
Although a license plate is unique to vehicles, at times it is a big challenge to get all valid information about the owners. What is the extent of use?
The resolution 729 clearly states that this change applies to trailers, motorcycles, semirreboques, scooters, tricycles, mopeds, electrical cycle, quads, tractors, and cranes. Further, as approved by (Contra) this change will be made until the 31st December 2023. The goal is to have the entire fleet of domestic vehicles to run on this unique id throughout the Mercosur members. The name and flag of each country will be the addition to this number plate. These plates are ready for all the brand new cycles and motorcycles.
How does Mercosur license plate look?
Plates will be coated with the retroreflective film on a white background that has a blue top edge. For example, if it is for Brazil, there will be a Brazilian flag and Mercosur symbol that will be as highlighted in the image below for the vehicle.
Two number plate sizes are available 40 cm length x 13 cm width for the car and 20 cm length x 17 cm width for the motorbike. It will have four letters and three numbers, two letters, three numbers, and other two letters. A classic example of this is AA 000 AAA. The protective film used on these plates needs to contain Brazil stamped Mercosur words on it. Additionally, it will have the two-dimensional barcode, and this will provide access to the manufacturer’s database information.
