Specification of V-Plates:
Size of V-Plates
– The citizens of Pakistan are required to follow the specifications for V-Plates as mentioned below:
- For vehicles the size for V-Plate is 302*152mm
- For motorbike and scooters (two-wheeler) the size is 202mm*65mm (front) and 155mm*155mm (rear)
Text Size
– Another requirement for the V-Plates is that the font of the text or the characters must be large in size. This is to ensure that the texts on the reflective car plates are clear and visible enough to read during the daytime and at night time. Especially for the security cameras installed on traffic signals, the text has to be legible so that it can detect and recognize the vehicle.
Plate Format
– The format for the new V-Plates is the alphanumerical combination with only the name of the province engraved on the reflective plates. The reflective num plates do not require the name of the district to be engraved as was the requirement earlier. The following format must be used for the V-Plates:
- For Vehicles, the format is 3 alphabets and 3 digits.
- For motorbike and scooters (two-wheeler) the format is 3 alphabets and 4 digits.
- For the government, semi-government, ambulances and commercial vehicles the first 3 alphabets will represent the purpose of the vehicle that is used for.
Security Marks on the Plates
– Though V-Plates allow the owner of the vehicle to have a customized license plate, at the same time one needs to remember that security marks must be included on the plate. The security mark is a unique number code that indicates the status of secure documents issued by the government which is updated in the government’s database or the registration record and carries specific details about the vehicle. This unique code helps in identifying the dealer of the vehicle, the registration number, the engine number, and the chassis number.

It also must include the following:
- The unique serial number which at least consists of 6-7 digits and must be printed only by laser printing.
- The emblem of the federal logo which is printed by laser and must be 50mm in height and width.
Background colors
– Specific background color for vehicles must be used to identify the purpose of the vehicle like:
- For private vehicles the reflective plate color is White.
- For commercial vehicles, the commercial reflective plate color is Yellow
- For government-related vehicles the reflective num plate color is Green.
Hot stamping foil colors on the plates
– Hot stamping license plate is a dry printing method in which the ink or foil is pre-dried and then at high heat, the image is engraved on the surface. Here also there are certain specifications that must be followed:
- For private and commercial vehicles the hot stamping reflective vinyl color is Black.
- For government-related vehicles the hot stamping reflective license color is White.
Graphic design
–The graphics on the V-Plates must be on the left side; however, this can be customized according to the choice of the vehicle owner.
